After the wondrous response to their much-loved debut EP 'Everything' earlier this year, Floridian outfit Sun Child are back once again to deliver their sweeping new single 'Ghost'.
Honing a beautifully warm and ethereal piano-led aesthetic for their newest outing, 'Ghost' makes for a wonderfully broad and passionate return for the group. With its sweet yet heartfelt vocals spread across a progressive production throughout, they are certainly looking to turn some heads with this emotive new gem.
So with the new single available to stream now, we sat down with lead singer Brooke Garwood to find out more about her background and what has been inspiring her most recently.

What was the first instrument you fell in love with?
The first instrument I fell in love with was the piano. My mom, aunt, and grandmother are all incredible pianists and I would sit and listen to them play. I started taking lessons when I was 5 years old and did for a few years.
What kind of music did you love when you were younger?
When I was younger, I was obsessed with Jewel - my mom would blast her in the car. I was also really into Fleetwood Mac and still am!
What was the first album you remember owning?
The first album I owned on my iTunes when I was younger was actually Jewel’s Pieces of You album.
What is the one song you wished you could have written yourself?
The one song I wish I could have written myself is Angels by Adrianne Lenker. That sound is so powerful and I feel like I really relate to those words. “I hope that they’re real, cause sometimes it feels like nobody’s listening” is probably my favorite lyric of the song.
Do you have any habits or rituals you go through when trying to write new music?
When trying to write new music, one of my go to habits is to go on a walk actually. I usually always start writing at my piano and I’ll get an idea in my head and let it all out while recording it on voice memos. When the flow is over, I’ll go on a walk and listen to it and be patient for more lyrics to come to mind.
Who are your favourite artists you have found yourself listening to at the moment?
My favorite artists at the moment are Searows, Mt. Joy, Big Thief, Indigo de Souza, and Bendigo Fletcher.
If you could open a show for anyone in the world, who would it be?
If I could open for anyone it would have to be Searows. I look up to his writing so much, and the simplicity and beauty of the instrumentation with focus on the words. The music I write is really meant for people to listen, and feel as though the fans Searows has are there to intently listen. Opening for Searows would be a dream come true.
What do you find is the most rewarding part about being a musician?
The most rewarding part about being a musician is reaching people with my songs on opposite sides of the world and having an impact on them. A fan from Germany reached out to me the other day saying they were so impacted by my lyrics. It is so crazy my song was able to even reach them! I love music that touches peoples hearts and that is my goal in writing and sharing music so when it manifests in real life it is so rewarding.
And what is the most frustrating part?
The most frustrating part is being comfortable in knowing you will NEVER know what the future holds. All you can do is focus on the present and the near future - what you can control. It takes a lot of effort, vulnerability, and rejection which can be discouraging at times.
And what is the best piece of advice you have received as a musician?
The best piece of advice I have received as a musician is to not rush anything. Sometimes we can be in a rush to get the next song out or book the next show, but in the end there is no rush and it’s about doing what is best for you first. Sometimes, waiting is more powerful than constantly pushing new songs or shows."
