What was the first instrument you fell in love with?

So the very first instrument was the clarinet back in grade school haha. I was in love with the clarinet solo in Rhapsody in Blue by George Gershwin, and then as I became a teenager guitar ended up being the instrument I felt connected to the most.

What kind of music did you love when you were younger?

Believe it or not, I loved soft rock lol I loved like, Lifehouse, or indie alt like Snow Patrol. I loved the instrumentation and how simple yet effective the lyrics were.

What was the first album you remember owning?

Open Your Eyes, by Snow Patrol, I listened to that album repeatedly. Through every life experience front to back.

What is the one song you wished you could have written yourself?

I love this question so much. I made a playlist on Spotify about it, I would probably say “White Ferrari” by Frank Ocean.

Do you have any habits or rituals you go through when trying to write new music?

I would say habit-wise, going through sound engines on something like Native instruments and seeing what is there and what I can come up with. I love sound design so if there is anything that I can make and shape, I go with that. Mainly just wanting to start with a texture and theme and then go from there.

Who are your favourite artists you have found yourself listening to at the moment?

I’ve been listening to a lot of Dijon and Mk.gee lately, their music has this tonal resonance that creates a very cathartic experience. You can feel it on so many different levels.

If you could open a show for anyone in the world, who would it be?

I would want to open up for Bon Iver haha I think that would be insane, with what I picture my ideal live setup would be.

What do you find is the most rewarding part about being a musician?

There are no limitations to what you can make, you know? with technology you can make any sound and experimentation truly has no bounds.

And what is the most frustrating part?

Having an idea and not being able to relay that idea. As a musician or producer you can hear and visualise the idea, but not being able to convey that or it taking hours and hours just trying to figure out what you are actually hearing can be brutal.

And what is the best piece of advice you have received as a musician?

Be honest. I think something that you eventually start to realise is if you chase trends or try to conform to something that is just not in you, you won’t be able to keep up with it and it will weed you out.
