Ghostly Times - 'MIRAGE'

8/10

After originally making their mark on the scene with their breakthrough debut album 'When All That's Left Is Grey' in 2017, it wasn't until earlier this year that New York's Ghostly Times made their long-awaited return with the stunning comeback single 'Not Alone'. But while the seven-year break from releasing new music is certainly longer than many would have hoped for, they have clearly been cultivating something very special as they deliver their new EP 'MIRAGE', a release that sees them enter the next phase within their musical evolution.

While an extremely big and euphoric band, known to take influence from heavy rock and post-hardcore aesthetics, 'MIRAGE' has the sound and style of a more indie-rock appeal. Stripping back the bold and overproduced elements of many in their field, this new seven-track collection sees them in a more refined guise. Adopting a broader and more immersive direction this time around, they have created this beautifully absorbing array of anthemic gems that see them return to the fold in fine form throughout.

It may have come after an extended break for them, but 'MIRAGE' shows there are still plenty of fresh and tantalising ideas just waiting to be unearthed. Brimming with this bold and captivating aura that sweeps across the whole EP, Ghostly Times continue to prove themselves as one of the more inventive names on the underground scene right now.
