The Go! Team - 'Get Up Sequences, Pt. 2'

7/10

Since they first arrived back in 2004 with their breakthrough debut LP 'Thunder, Lightning, Strike', The Go! Team have been one of the more vibrant names working the scene. With their rich and diverse approach to instrumentation, they have managed to garner a sound that is both original and exciting, yet still manage to keep themselves fresh after nearly twenty years on the go. And now after a few years since their highly-received 2021 offering 'Get Up Sequences, Pt.1', they look to follow up their most recent collection with 'Get Up Sequences, Pt. 2', a record that continues their impressive streak once again.

It is incredibly inspired that The Go! Team have hardly deviated from their core sound after almost two decades, but 'Get Up Sequences, Pt. 2' still maintains plenty of that original flair they first emerged with. From the very start, it is the same fun and adventurous outfit that have always looked to throw pretence aside and hone in on the richer and more shimmering side to their direction. Throughout their newest effort, we see them in a renewed state of mind that feels like they are back to their best and ready to deliver a carefree selection of sun-kissed ditties throughout.

What has always been admirable about The Go! Team is just how timeless they have managed to make themselves. Despite hardly moving an inch sonically since their debut, they still manage to find plenty of bright and exciting ideas to explore, making for a fun and enjoyable listen that leaves pomp and convention at the door.
