The Great Disappointment - 'Apocalypse Pickin' Party'

7/10

Over these last few months, US outfit The Great Disappointment have been busy crafting and cultivating a distinctive sound for themselves. Taking their cues from the classic Americana sound that incorporate blues and bluegrass into its vibrant aesthetic, the band have looked to revive a once popular sound for a new and contemporary audience. And after plenty of innovation and self-discovery recently, they are now breaking out with their eagerly-awaited debut album 'Apocalypse Pickin' Party', a record that cements those nostalgic ideals throughout.

Looking to keep the vibes and energy high throughout this new twelve-track collection, 'Apocalypse Pickin' Party' makes for an incredibly fun yet passionate listen. Coupling traditional instrumentation with this wonderfully immersive production at every turn, they are introducing themselves to the fold in fine form here. Delivering something that sounds familiar but still manages to hold a unique flair is no easy feat, but The Great Disappointment take on this challenge with style and aplomb here.

It may early days for their tenure right now, but 'Apocalypse Pickin' Party' makes for an incredibly rich and enjoyable example of their direction to date. Brimming with this fresh and captivating approach to their songwriting, they are certainly ones to keep a firm eye on for the months ahead as well.
