Greentea Peng - 'MAN MADE'

8/10

Over the last few years, we have watched as emerging London-based artist Greentea Peng grows from a small cult name on the peripheries of the scene, to one of the most in-demand names of the moment. With a string of single and EPs released under her belt since 2018, she has managed to create a sound that is both commercially appealing while still staying true to her underground roots, something we rarely get to hear these days. And with the buzz still rising throughout, she delivers her long-awaited debut album 'MAN MADE', a record that is more about cementing her legacy than anything else.

While she isn't the kind of artist to showcase her voice or presence on a record, she has this incredibly luxurious persona she brings to all of her music, making for a far more captivating and intriguing direction than most. 'MAN MADE' is one of those surprises in her collection, as it aims to show her more passionate and earthy side. Although you won't find much in the way of big and bold radio-friendly cuts on here, it has this incredibly smooth groove running throughout that allows her to play down her attitude and deliver a raw and well-produced cannon of brilliance.

This full-length has been a long time coming, no doubt, but 'MAN MADE' feels like one of those releases that was clearly taken its time with. It's stripped-back demeanour gives every minute dash of instrumentation its own moment to shine, and makes for wonderfully intoxicating listen throughout.
