Hippo Campus - 'Flood'

7/10

Over this past decade, Hippo Campus have established themselves as one of the more progressive additions to the modern indie-rock scene. Adopting this warm and tender atmosphere into almost everything they do, their tenure to date has been filled with this broad and alluring flurry of delights, all building upon their dynamic intentions as often as possible. And after rekindling much of their initial magic for 2022's 'LP3', they are back once again to offer up their fourth studio album 'Flood', a record that continues those broad and immersive textures once again.

Keeping very much in line with what they were pursuing on their 'Wasteland' EP last year, 'Flood' makes for a brilliantly fresh and riveting listen throughout. Whether they are embarking upon bold and shimmering soundscapes, or a more lively aesthetic like on 'Paranoid', the band have looked to make this new collection one of their most diverse to date. Still maintaining that rich and welcoming appeal they have always conjured, it certainly feels like a fascinating step forward within their sound to date.

While these last few years have definitely been some of their most prolific on record, 'Flood' proves there is still plenty of innovative spirit coursing through them right now. Brimming with such warmth and vigour throughout, Hippo Campus remain one of our favourite names doing the rounds right now.
