Imaginary Tricks - 'Richie's'

8/10

Over the last few years, Brooklyn's Imaginary Tricks have been one of the more alluring names working the New York scene. With a direction that tends to dabble in a mixture of blues-rock, psychedelica and indie throughout their catalogue to date, the duo recently cemented more of their legacy with the release of their vibrant sophomore LP 'Watch It' last year. Now looking to continue that positive ascent they return with their newest EP 'Richie's', a collection brimming with warm and immersive textures throughout.

Much like what we have heard from them already, 'Richie's' stands as a brilliantly bright and passionate listen. Taking more of that adventurous approach they have adopted and pushing it as far as it will go, the new six-track collection hones another heady dose of breezy aesthetics and wondrous songwriting all under one roof. With a fresh and swaggering appeal running the length of their new release, they feel as if they are on the cusp of the next vital step in their musical evolution to date.

With such a bold and innovative approach to their production, 'Richie's' is jam-packed with fun and interesting flavours. Never ones to stick to their laurels and play it safe, they continue their inventive streak with style and aplomb here.
