Jimmy Burnett - 'A PLACE IN THIS WORLD'

8/10

Over these last few years, Canadian rapper and producer Jimmy Burnett has aimed to create a sound that moves away from his familiar contemporaries. Channelling a classic approach to hip-hop production and rebranding it for a modern ear, his tenure to date has been filled with an abundance of fresh and passionate jams that always look to push his aesthetic forward. And after the rousing response to his much-loved 2022 LP 'No Magic', he returns once again with his progressive new album 'A PLACE IN THIS WORLD', a record that continues that innovative streak.

Much like what we have come to expect from him on past outings, 'A PLACE IN THIS WORLD' is a brilliantly rich and diverse listening experience. With his warm and textured flow finding its place across a varied array of smooth and emotive tracks from beginning to end, we find him in one of his most adventurous guises yet. While just nine singles to its name, his latest full-length packs itself with a flurry of broad and tantalising ideas, cementing his reputation for delivering some truly absorbing offerings at every turn.

While he has certainly found himself in an extremely prolific period during his career to date, 'A PLACE IN THIS WORLD' still manages to explore plenty of unique and interesting pursuits throughout. All wrapped up within his vibrant persona, Jimmy Burnett continues to soar as one of the more exciting names on the rise today.
