Joe Goddard - 'Harmonics'

7/10

While still best known as the mastermind behind Hot Chip for the last two decades, Joe Goddard's solo material has proven just as impactful as that within his formative outfit. Finding himself as one of the more in-demand producers doing the rounds right now, his solo guise has been this broad and sprawling journey that always looks to push the boundaries of modern electronic music. And with his previous LP 'Electric LInes' his most commercially successful to date, he returns once again to deliver his third studio album 'Harmonics', a record that continues that innovative spirit he has always possessed.

Much like his regular endeavours, 'Harmonics' is far more of a collaborative release than anything else. Inviting the likes of Ibibio Sound Machine, Hayden Thorpe, Tom McFarland and many more to add their own distinctive edge to the project, his newest collection instantly cements itself as one of his most adventurous to date. Brimming with these rich and alluring textures that give it a momentous club-friendly vibe as often as possible, this new full-length is another shining example of his immersive and dynamic direction to date.

While it may take a little while to really get into it, 'Harmonics' is clearly a labour of love for Joe Goddard. With so much ingenuity threaded throughout each of these new offerings, he continues to rise as one of the UK's more interesting artists right now.
