Kasabian - 'For Crying Out Loud'

5/10

After providing a clear tangent in direction after their last full-length '48:13', opting for a more upbeat, electronic sound, Kasabian have returned with their sixth studio album 'For Crying Out Loud'. And on the initial listen, it is clear that they are still on a high-note, but with a production and style that better suits their original output.

When you think back to the formative years of Kasabian, you'll remember plenty of dark tones, brooding and ultimately something unique in their sound. But with their hometown football club Leicester City reaching the almost impossible heights of winning last year's Premier League title, it seems that their local fortunes have given them something to smile about. Throughout, 'For Crying Out Loud' is an indie-party record that has kept the electronic influences of their last, and developed a more upbeat disposition.

Yet despite its chirpy demeanour, there is a lot left to be desired from this new full-length. While the record has its fair share of stand out singles, there is just too much forgettable filler on here to make it an enjoyable experience from start to finish. A large reminder that stalwarts like Kasabian needn't constantly reinvent themselves, just to break the mould.
