King Gizzard & The Lizard Wizard - 'The Silver Cord'

7/10

Even though King Gizzard & The Lizard Wizard have one of the most prolific reputations in modern music, their unending pursuit to release new music has always been matched by their genre-bending abilities. While usually honing a progressive psych-rock agenda for most of their career, they have regularly dabbled in far more unexpected territories throughout their tenure, giving their catalogue a wildly diverse feel. And after the strong response to their previous LP 'PetroDragonic Apocalypse' earlier this year, they return once again with their twenty-fifth studio album 'The Silver Cord', a record that looks to explore more of an electronic edge.

While a focused psychedelic element still remains at the heart of this new collection, 'The Silver Cord' is most definitely their most electronically-focused endeavour to date. With its synth-heavy production, leading them towards spacey and sprawling aesthetics at every turn, their latest outing delivers a wonderfully fresh and immersive aura from start to finish, showing at even after an incredibly busy run, they are still finding new and interesting ideas in which to develop.

It may not be their most impactful release of the last few years, but 'The Silver Cord' is still a strong indication that King Gizzard are still at the top of their creative game. Brimming with wondrous atmospheres throughout, it is still fun to hear them cultivate something original for themselves.
