Kool A.D. - 'Official'

7/10

For the last few months, US rapper Kool A.D. has been one of the most prolific artists in the world right now. Spending this year already releasing the 100-track 'O.K.' mixtape, the 'All Love' EP, and the brand new track 'Real Talk', the former Das Racist member returns with a new seven-track album 'Official'. And much like his current work to date, it aims to further the potential of his chosen genre in a commercial space.

The rapper has always been known for delivering brutally honest lyrics over a contemporary production, giving him a fresh yet distinctive identity. And 'Official' doesn't really break away from that image unless he's just looking to create some fun productions like 'Rollin Thru The Town' or 'This Mane'. While this album does feel like just an outlet to get his latest beats to market as soon as possible, it never feels rushed and manages to create a serene vibe throughout.

With seven-tracks in length, it does feel like it ends too soon. The rapper could have easily padded it out with some more material, but in the end, the result still manages to deliver on what the MC knows best. A real treat for those who have an affinity with West Coast hip-hop.
