Lana Del Rey - 'Did You Know That There's a Tunnel Under Ocean Blvd'

7/10

Ever since she first broke through to the international mainstream with her iconic sophomore LP 'Born To Die' in 2012, Land Del Rey has been one of the most consistent names on the scene today. Despite rarely altering her sound over the last decade, she has still managed to find plenty of rich and alluring ideas to explore within her guise, resulting in an extremely prolific run of highly-praised releases in recent years. And now looking to follow on from her two 2021 record's 'Blue Banisters' and 'Chemtrails Over The Country Club', she returns with her ninth studio album 'Did You Know That There's a Tunnel Under Ocean Blvd', which continues that sombre aesthetic once again.

While there have been the odd moments were she adds a more euphoric tone to her material, much of her work lies within the sweeping and subdued depths of her heart-wrenching lyrical performance, something that 'Did You Know That There's a Tunnel Under Ocean Blvd' looks to continue from start to finish. Teaming up once again with hit-making producer Jack Antonoff for the length of this new collection, the pair continue to unveil a wealth of beautifully serene compositions that add yet another layer to her irresistible sound.

Although there aren't too many cuts that truly stand out within this new collection, 'Did You Know That There's a Tunnel Under Ocean Blvd' still makes for a wonderfully warm and effervescent listen. Shimmering and soaring as often as possible, Lana Del Rey has returned to the basics of her direction and delivered a rousing release once again.
