Lancelot Chen - 'Gist Of The Dusk'

7/10

Despite only emerging earlier this year with his stunning breakthrough debut LP 'Late Hour', emerging artist Lancelot Chen has already established himself as one of the more prolific names on the rise. Adopting this wonderfully rich and sprawling aesthetic across everything he does, he has been quick to cement himself as a true visionary doing the rounds right now. And after another burst of inspiration in recent months, he is back once again with his third studio album 'Gist Of The Dusk', a record that continues that adventurous spirit of his.

Describing the new offering as "90% pop", 'Gist Of The Dusk' still manages to harness this experimental edge to it. Largely cultivating some beautifully serene soundscapes in which to lay his otherworldly vocals across, his newest collection finds him in one of his more alluring guises to date. Offering up one wonderfully mesmerising swoon after another, inviting a varied and dynamic approach to production along the way, Lancelot Chen is building upon his enigmatic legacy to date with some of his more immersive material yet.

He may have only been on the scene for the last few months, but 'Gist Of The Dusk' showcases the same flair for progressive artistry as someone with far more years under their belt. Moving with such elegant beauty as it plays, it feels as though Lancelot Chen is someone we are going to be hearing a lot more from in the future as well.
