The Last Shadow Puppets - ‘Everything You’ve Come to Expect’

5/10

Arriving an incredible eight years since their stand-alone debut album 'The Age Of Understatement', Alex Turner and Miles Kane, collectively known as The Last Shadow Puppets, have been keeping themselves busy on their own projects. And while we thought that the first album was just another off-the-cuff experiment, it seems they had more ideas than we thought and have returned older, wiser and some might say, a little cocky.

While 'The Age Of Understatement' was considered a critical and commercial success, its follow up seems to have taken a sudden tangent into the abstract. Much like when Arctic Monkeys began working with Josh Homme between 'Favourite Worst Nightmare' and 'Humbug', the change in their sound was violent and not easy to accept straight away. This seems to mirror where we find ourselves with 'Everything You've Come To Expect' as while it doesn't have many similarities with their debut, it also lacks a lot of its presence and gravitas.

While the record still has a few shining moments, the rest of the album seems to be a mediocre attempt at harking back to old glories. 'Everything You've Come To Expect' is average at best and probably not worth all the hype surrounding it.
