Laundry Boys - 'Yatzy Music Vol. 1'

7/10

When Manhattan-based duo Laundry Boys released their vibrant debut single 'Drunk On Love' earlier this year, they quickly looked to establish themselves as the innovators of a new genre, "stoner pop". Adopting a warm and hazy approach to their sound that merged effortlessly with their progressive nature, they quickly doubled down on their newfound appreciation with their follow-up offering 'Praise You'. And with the buzz still building around them, they look to cement their legacy for the year with their eagerly-awaited debut EP 'Yatzy Music Vol. 1', a release oozing with rich and illustrious textures.

From the very start of this new five-track collection, Laundry Boys seem keen to take us on a journey throughout their broad and immersive sound. With each track its own individual pursuit towards new and interesting ideas, 'Yatzy Music Vol. 1' has this wonderfully transportive feel to it. Brimming with an enveloping aesthetic that harnesses a diverse approach to instrumentation at every turn, they are quickly establishing themselves as one of the more distinctive names on the rise right now.

While it may only be a small snapshot towards their direction to date, 'Yatzy Music Vol. 1' stands as a wonderfully conceived outing, overflowing with tender and enriching moments. They are still working the peripheries of the scene right now, but this is definitely a sound that deserves a much wider audience.
