Les Nointers - 'Underneath Silence'

7/10

Ever since breaking through with their much-loved debut single 'She Really Likes Me' near the end of last year, Tasmanian outfit Les Nointers have been quick to carve out a fresh and distinctive direction for themselves. Taking cues from the likes of Radiohead, Pixies, and Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds to create their warm and lofty aesthetic, the band have spent much of the last few months continuing their innovative spirit in order to push their sound as far as it will go. And after plenty of adventurous pursuits lately, they are now looking to cement their dynamic legacy to date with the release of their eagerly-awaited debut album 'Underneath Silence', a record that builds upon their vibrant ascent so far.

Much like what their initial offerings delivered, 'Underneath Silence' sees them take influence from those classic inspirations, but rebranded for a modern ear. Capturing some wonderfully fresh and groove-filled vibes that almost head in a psychedelic direction from time to time, their initial full-length finds them in a wonderfully broad and inventive guise. Moving with this subtle elegance from track to track, Les Nointers are introducing themselves to the international scene with a fresh and illuminating vigour here.

It may still be very early days for them right now, but 'Underneath Silence' certainly delivers plenty of promise for their sound moving forward. Exploring this multitude of varied appeals as it plays, it feels like Les Nointers are set to become one of the more talked about names for the years ahead as well.
