Let's Eat Grandma - 'I Gemini'

7/10

For the last months, teenage duo Let's Eat Grandma have certainly made a name for themselves. Not just because of their eccentric name but also from the unique and interesting music they have been producing. Made up of friends Rosa Walton and Jenny Hollingworth, the pair have managed to create a playful side to the shoegaze ethos and delivered a debut album unlike anything we have heard so far this year.

Taking inspiration from the neo-goth sound and combining with a flair for bold and brass production, Let's Eat Grandma have managed to create an album with so much crossover appeal it is almost unheard of. With the girls' synths taking up the bulk of this record, it aims to create a juxtaposed display of ambient tranquilness and brooding darkness. The result is an enjoyable release, if not for the odd duff track here and there.

In all, 'I Gemini' makes for an exceptionally good listen. Those who find themselves fans of bands like Slowdive and Mojave 3 should definitely give these two a try, and hopefully we'll be hearing more from them very soon.
