Little Brutes - 'Desire' EP

9/10

While 2014 was most certainly the year of the two-piece, we are kicking off this new year with another insatiable duo. LA-based Little Brutes may not have hit the radar on UK shores yet, but are already causing a small stir in the home country and this new EP certainly looks to serve them well. 'Desire' has taken the irreverent songwriting of bands like The White Stripes and blended it with the bold, anthemic production of the 1980s to give us an enjoyable yet focused new release.

The short but charismatic 5-track EP covers a lot of ground in such a short space of time as the pair look to create a body of work that best fits what they are all about. It's bouncy and catchy content is reminiscent of what we felt after hearing Haim for the first time. You can definitely hear the creativity and ingenuity within their songwriting and have managed to execute it in such a diverse way that the EP never feels flat or runs low on ideas.

It is certainly a great little collection of tracks from a pair of committed new artists who know exactly what they should be aiming for in this new year. They may not be much at the moment but if more people tap into their sound, they will surely become a great new addition to the scene in the next 12 months.
