Little Dragon - 'Nabuma Purple Rubberband (Remixes)

4/10

Little Dragon's latest album 'Nabuma Rubberband' was one of the best albums of last year, but has now received a full remix from chop-masters OG Ron C and DJ Candlestick. While most remix albums are usually a varied affair with many different producers adding their own touch to each track, this new collection sees the same artists rework each track in a similar fashion, giving the record a more similar sound throughout and keeping much of the original material in tact.

But while the song's original structure remains, the DJs have ripped all that identifiable Scandinavian gloss out of the album and replaced it with a more downbeat flow to give the album a whole new perspective. Throw in a few vinyl scratches and deep vocal additions, and you've pretty much got what this new remix album is. While it seems interesting to start with, it hasn't really done anything to improve or develop the original sound of the album in any way and makes for a rather dull listen for those who loved the album the first time round.

It is a somewhat intriguing thing to hear but after a few tracks, you begin to lose interest with it and all those ill-placed DJ scratches do begin to get on nerves after a while. Give it a listen if you wish but it would be best to stick to the original if you can.
