Little Green Cars - 'Ephemera'

7/10

Following on from the moderate success of their 2013 debut album 'Absolute Zero', Dublin folk outfit Little Green Cars have returned to deliver another elegant release. And just like their debut, the band are looking to inject a mainstream vein into their otherwise traditional gaelic sound.

Initially the album comes across like every other pop-folk release of the last decade. Simple melodies, a catchy vocal and then you're done. But as it plays you realise that Little Green Cars aren't just about following the herd. They begin to play around with their musical influences and at times create something quite profound. Their use of multi-layered vocals give this choir-like feel to their music, making it almost spiritual at times and thus delivering something you'll want to come back to again and again.

While it obviously still has the singles and their own agendas, it is the album tracks that seem to resonate the most. A truly progressive name on the modern folk scene and one that could do great things by the genre.
