LSD - 'Labrinth, Sia & Diplo Present...'

5/10

When the trio first emerged with their debut single 'Genius' around this time last year, none of us really thought that a full album would be coming out of their collaboration. The coming together of Labrinth, Sia and Diplo is impressive enough for just one track so to get the trio to work and collaborate together for a full record seemed like a gargantuan task. But after a flurry of follow-up cuts ever since, the trio have now introduced themselves to the world as LSD, and their debut full-length seems confident without too much overlap of each other's sound.

While each of these artists certainly has a very specific style in writing and producing new music, none of them seem to keen to be the lead of this new project. Each artist adds their own unique touch to its overall sound, and although it makes for an interesting listen, none of the diverse and eclectic eccentricities make it through to this new collection. While perfectly fine as a new record, there seems to be a lack of punch and excitement from any of these artists to create something truly bold and engaging, making this new release something that falls short of their usual mark.

There is still plenty to enjoy on this new album, but the most fascinating cuts seem few and far between. LSD will probably only be a one-record-wonder by the end of the year, and although they have tried to deliver something new and interesting, this is a project that you can only really embrace in small doses.
