Lucius - 'Good Grief'

7/10

Following on from their competent debut album 'Wildewoman' in 2013, New York outfit Lucius aim to get our toes tapping once again with their second full-length effort 'Good Grief'. And while the duel frontwomen vocals of Jess Wolfe and Holly Laessig still remain an instant indicator of the band's sound, the rest of the band have taken the considerations of their debut under their wings and returned with a far more coherent release.

While their debut took on many strains of experimentation, 'Good Grief' seems far more grounded and therefore more confident in its sound. With a vast array of epic productions and stomping percussion, the album's intent is to make you dance and nothing more. With the incredibly catchy 'Something About You' and 'What We Have (To Change)' placed at the start of the record, it sets up a precedent and pace that the rest of the album does its best to keep.

It definitely shows a level of growth since their last full-length release. We get to see them more as the band they see themselves as, and thus makes the album far easier to slip into. A strong return with some brilliant tunes throughout.
