The Luka State - 'More Than This'

7/10

Despite releasing singles as far back as 2013, The Luka State have really only come to fruition in the last few years. Building up momentum with a string of highly-praised EPs across the last decade, they finally released their long-awaited debut album 'Fall In Fall Out' in 2021, a release that was ultimately stifled by the ongoing pandemic at the time. But not ones to let a global outbreak slow them down, they are looking to make some serious noise on their highly-anticipated sophomore album 'More Than This', a record that sees them turn the energy and drive up to eleven.

While 'Fall In Fall Out' came after several years of honing and fine-tuning their direction, 'More Than This' feels like a band that have settled nicely into their aesthetic and know exactly where they need to take it next. Brimming with ferocious hooks and anthemic textures from start to finish, they feel far more confident and assured here than ever before. Shaking off much of their more low-key moments, this new collection is all about grabbing you by the ears and never letting you go.

Although it has a mix of heavy-hitters and some more atmospheric moments, 'More Than This' stands as their most blistering offering to date. With such raw and uncompromising power flooded throughout its twelve tracks, they are certainly looking to turn some heads this time around.
