Luna Waves - 'Comedowns'

7/10

Ever since he first broke through with his stunning 2018 debut LP 'Seafoam Dream, Pt.1', Nottingham-based multi-instrumentalist Rob Muir has seen his Luna Waves project go from strength to strength. Creating this beautifully rich and alluring aesthetic in which to call his own, the years since have been littered with a vibrant array of immersive releases, all wrapped up in his spellbinding vocal performance throughout. And with a pair of much-loved singles under his belt already this year, he returns with his fourth studio album 'Comedowns', a record brimming with warmth and vigour at every turn.

Throughout his tenure to date, Luna Waves has always looked to the shoegaze-inspired aesthetic of the 90s as the core to its riveting direction, and this is exactly what we get on 'Comedowns'. Delivering these wonderfully rich and passionate soundscapes that ebb and flow as often as possible, his newest twelve-track collection marks one of his most progressive releases to date. With tracks like 'Half Awake' and 'Dull Blades' harnessing some of its more euphoric moments, he has returned to the fold to unveil some truly enigmatic delights here.

While his pursuit of grand and shimmering textures has already been well-established, 'Comedowns' feels like a bigger and more eruptive offering than much that has come before. Moving with this subtle elegance from start to finish, Luna Waves continues to soar as one of the more inventive names doing the rounds right now.
