Maisie Peters - 'The Good Witch'

7/10

When she released her long-awaited debut LP 'You Signed Up For This' in 2021, Maisie Peters delivered one of the more refreshing pop records of that year. As the flagship signing for Ed Sheeran's Gingerbread Man Records label, her initial full-length was a bright and euphoric entry in her already accomplished repertoire that saw her build upon an already tantalising buzz in the years prior. And with her profile growing even larger in the years since, she now returns with her hotly-tipped sophomore album 'The Good Witch', a record that looks to cement her legacy as one of the genre's most exciting names right now.

While 'You Signed Up For This' saw itself as more of a diverse introduction to the kind of music she would look to make as the years went on, 'The Good Witch' is a far more refined and cohesive release that focuses hard on the glossier side to her sound. Honing more of the stadium-filling anthems she will likely need as she grows in popularity once again, this new offering is a firm and solid statement of intent as she looks to rival the likes of Taylor Swift to become the next big superstar of the international pop scene.

Although it doesn't have the same innovative and explorative nature as her first record, 'The Good Witch' shows us a more assured and confident Peters at the helm. Keeping the production bright and euphoric as often as possible makes the release an incredibly easy listen that will no doubt serve her already adorning fanbase down to a tee.
