MICHELLE - 'Songs About You Specifically'

8/10

Ever since they first emerged, New York's musical collective MICHELLE have never been one to walk a conventional path when it comes to their sound. Regularly adopting broad and inventive aesthetics to create their distinctive spritely alt-pop appeal over the years, the band have quickly earned a reputation for adventurous songwriting and production, something that has seen them through two highly-praised studio LPs to date. And with their vibrant spirit still bustling along, they are back once again to deliver their third album 'Songs About You Specifically', a record that delivers more of that unpredictable nature of theirs.

Much like what their previous endeavours 'AFTER DINNER WE TALK DREAMS' and 'HEATWAVE' displayed, 'Songs About You Specifically' is this warm and inviting dive into their passionate and shimmering world. Creating this wonderfully fun and explorative approach to genre, which sees them hark back to classic R&B and soul from time to time, MICHELLE's latest release comes across as one of their most confident to date as they look to deliver a flurry of material uninterested into fitting into any kind of contemporary mould.

Fans of their work so far won't find many surprises here, but those just discovering them will likely fall deeply in love with 'Songs About You Specifically'. It has this instantly impactful groove running through it, something that MICHELLE have already made their own throughout their creative careers to date.
