Midnight Prisms - 'New Age Disco'

7/10

When she first broke through with her immersive debut album 'Astrology Songs' in 2022, LA-based artist and producer Alicia Beck aka Midnight Prisms established herself as one of the more innovative names arriving that year. With a flair for disco-inspired anthems that moved across an elegant electro-pop appeal throughout, she captivated many with her progressive and adventurous sound. Now looking to build upon that illustrious foundation, she returns with her vibrant new EP 'New Age Disco', a release that finds newer and more interesting ideas in which to explore.

Continuing that same tantalising vein she tapped into during her infancy, 'New Age Disco' does exactly what it says on the tin. Honing strong influence from those riveting 70s disco grooves and reinventing them more a modern ear, she takes cues from the likes of Róisín Murphy to deliver this wonderfully rich and embracing collection. With each track its own snapshot of her love for the classic dancefloor filler, she captures the more emotive side of the genre to unveil some of her most passionate and alluring offerings yet.

While her initial LP certainly brought plenty of attention her way, 'New Age Disco' is another vital step forward within her musical evolution of late. Shining with this warm and welcoming flow throughout, Midnight Prisms continue their absorbing nature once again.
