Mighty Jupiter & The Mooncake Band - 'Forced Fun For The Just OK Life'

7/10

Over these last few months, Latvian newcomers Mighty Jupiter & The Mooncake Band have been busy crafting a broad and distinctive direction in which to call their own. Blending a heady mix of baroque pop, blues-rock, punk, indietronica and so much more to create their varied aesthetic, the band have burst out of the gates as one of the more enigmatic names currently rising through the ranks. And with plenty of innovation and self-discovery under their belts, they now cement their legacy to date with their debut album 'Forced Fun For The Just OK Life', a record that shines with an immersive edge throughout.

While their sound is certainly an explorative one, 'Forced Fun For The Just OK Life' still manages to maintain this cohesive and succinct path from start to finish. Doubling down on this broad and wondrous atmosphere across all thirteen tracks, their initial full-length finds them in this brilliantly adventurous guise as they look to push the boundaries of their sound as far as they will go. Whether they are embracing a smooth and alluring textures or adding something more anthemic as it plays, Mighty Jupiter & The Mooncake Band are certainly looking to turn plenty of heads with this riveting debut outing.

Although it may be their only release to date, 'Forced Fun For The Just OK Life' showcases a band with a strong and confident grasp over their style already. Moving with this subtle elegance at every turn, they already feel like an outfit that has only just scratched the surface of their potential right now.
