MISSIO - 'I Am Cinco'

7/10

Over the past year, Texas-based duo MISSIO have looked to broaden and expand their musical horizons. Offering up a wealth of distinctively adventurous EPs called 'I Am Sad', 'I Am High', 'I Am Awesome', 'I Am Angry', and 'I Am Crazy', the band have looked to explore a more multifaceted direction in recent months, moving out of their comfort zone in pursuit of something more innovative. And with those collections building their presence on the scene even further, they now look to bring them all together for 'I Am Cinco', an album that highlight their recent intentions.

While each of the original EPs looked to venture down their own unique path, 'I Am Cinco' is essentially an amalgamation of everything they have produced recently. Moving from one focused aura and aesthetic to the next, this sprawling 26-track offering is a deep dive into some of their most progressive material yet. While the sudden shift in tone does have some getting used to in places, much of 'I Am Cinco' manages to adopt an extremely succinct flow, giving it this incredibly easygoing feel that assures the momentum keeps moving forward throughout.

MISSIO's career over the years has always been an explorative one, but 'I Am Cinco' appears to be the zenith of their creative streak. With such an immersive and eclectic feel from start to finish, it'll be hard to see where they could possibly go after this.
