Mothers - 'When You Walk A Long Distance You Are Tired'

7/10

Having spent much of last year as one of the best new bands to get into, Mothers kept much of their content under wraps. Delivering a small flurry of singles in the last 12 months, some of which haven't made it onto this new release, the band deliver their debut album 'When You Walk A Long Distance You Are Tired'. And at just eight-tracks in length, the theme of small outputs continue for this Athens, Georgia-based group.

Coming from one of America's most praised and prolific musical hubs, Mothers have still managed to create a sound that both familiar and unique in equal measure. With hints of shoegaze, surf rock and grunge, the band has managed to deliver an eclectic release that seems to show off their own influences throughout. Opening with the wistfully sweet 'Too Small For Eyes', the album quickly spreads its creative wings and offers a selection of tracks that tell their own story and set their own path within the record.

Essentially, 'When You Walk A Long Distance You Are Tired' plays like an introduction. The only statement they are looking to make is that of their own musical preferences and aim to give the listener a well-rounded idea of who they are and what they want to create. A confident start with something for everyone.
