Mr Pigeons - 'Ivory'

7/10

Ever since he first emerged, Dutch artist and rapper Mr Pigeons has established himself as one of the more prolific names doing the rounds right now. Turning out a wealth of broad and explorative releases across these last few years, he has been quick to earn a reputation as a true innovator on the rise. And even after returning earlier this year with his much-loved LP 'Peachy Turquoise', he is back once again to unveil his immersive new studio album 'Ivory', a record that continues that adventurous streak of his.

Much like what his recent outings have introduced us to, 'Ivory' makes for an incredibly rich and wondrous listen. With his smooth and driven vocal flow riding across this illuminating, soul-infused production across all nine tracks, he returns to us with one of his more expansive efforts to date. Whether he is pursing a bold and anthemic endeavour or something more sombre, Mr Pigeons always manages to hone a cohesive direction to lay his own signature aesthetic from beginning to end.

It has certainly been a busy and inventive time for him recently, but 'Ivory' shows he is still brimming with plenty of fresh and exciting ideas in which to explore. With such a firm and confident grasp over his sound throughout, he remains one of the more expressive names on the scene today.
