Pencil Party - 'Bed Of Memories'

7/10

Over these last few months, St.Leonards-On-Sea's Pencil Party have been busy crafting a distinctive direction for themselves. Taking influence from a glossy dream-pop aesthetic, and combining it with this wonderfully glittering synth-pop identity throughout, their tenure to date has been filled with self-discovery and innovation, something they hope to continue to build from in the months ahead as well. And after plenty work towards their sound, they are now breaking out with their debut EP 'Bed Of Memories', a collection that establishes them as one of the more interesting names on the rise right now.

Despite their constant use of 303 synthesisers, 'Bed Of Memories' creates less of an acid house vibe, and something far more grounded in an 80s electro-pop groove. This initial four-track collection looks to take this diverse to both direction and inspiration, splice it all together in an unconventional sonic melee, and still come out the other end with a wildly enjoyable listen. Although placing their influences directly is a little challenging, Pencil Party have crafted this brilliantly absorbing release that instantly sets them apart from almost anything else doing the rounds right now.

While it may be their only piece of material to date, 'Bed Of Memories' certainly makes for an impactful introduction to what they have to offer. Vibrantly experimental and brilliantly unpredictable, Pencil Party are looking to make a bold and immersive impression with this new collection.
