Pigs Pigs Pigs Pigs Pigs Pigs Pigs - 'Viscerals'

7/10

When one comes across a band name like Pigs Pigs Pigs Pigs Pigs Pigs Pigs, there are many thoughts that go through your head, usually concerning just how serious they are as a band. Yet just like many other names dancing around the psych-rock world, their name is simply an extension of their bizarre and abstract intentions that have been prevalent across their first two studio albums. But for album number three, it feels like the Newcastle-based outfit have finally grown out of their adolescent skin and emerged as a bold and vibrant outfit that look set to be your new favourite band.

Despite being tagged with the genre trope psych-metal, the group have created an incredibly accessible and likeable edge to the sound, not too dissimilar to what IDLES did for the hardcore punk direction. Following in the footsteps of King Gizzard & The Lizard Wizard, 'Viscerals' looks to take the broad and euphoric elements of psychedelic rock, and flood it with as much distortion as possible in order to deliver a thunderous and anthemic release that is distinctly British in almost every way.

It may not be the bold and pounding juggernaut that its initial singles had suggested it would be, but 'Viscerals' since manages to maintain a solid and driven pace that will give their devout fanbase something to smile about once again. A fresh and exciting collection of chugging guitars and vivid imagery that all of us should experience once in our lives.
