Porij - 'Teething'

7/10

Over these last few years, Manchester-born, London-based outfit Porij have been keen to create a broad and distinctive direction to call their own. While largely part of the modern indie-rock movement, there sound has always looked to incorporate a heady mix of garage, 2-step and other electronics aesthetics to give their sound a brilliantly broad and immersive identity. And after plenty of praise for their EP and single releases, they now look to cement their dynamic legacy to date with their eagerly-awaited debut album 'Teething', a record that finds more varied textures in which to explore.

While their earlier material was more about making a strong statement of intent with big beats and euphoric production, 'Teething' comes across as a far more pensive affair. Although the collection still packs itself with plenty of bold and impactful moments, much of this new offering hones in on their more ethereal and atmospheric side, giving it a wonderfully warm and embracing feel that perfectly suits the progressive run they have been on lately.

While it may not be the enormous and groundbreaking release many of their fans would have expected, 'Teething' still makes for a brilliantly alluring listen. Brimming with this wealth of diverse eccentricity throughout, Porij continue their form as one of the more inventive names on the rise right now.
