Rustie - 'EVENIFUDONTBELIEVE'

8/10

Well, isn't this a surprise? It was only two days ago that we were treated to 'First Mythz', a track Rustie admitted was from his next studio album, and here we are with the album now released. While surprise albums are all the rage these days, its very rare that one comes as a genuine surprise like this one. And considering it has been just over a year since his brilliant sophomore album 'Green Language', what has the producer conjured up for number three?

While 'Green Language' was an introduction to a newer, more established Rustie with notable guest appearances from D Double E, Redinho and Danny Brown, 'EVENIFYOUDONTBELIEVE' sees the producer hark back to the harsh instrumental sound of his debut 'Glass Swords' and gives us a more atmospheric approach to his production. While the beats and basslines remain as erratic and forceful as ever, the vibe of this new record is more of a fluid soundscape where each track aims to compliment the feel of the previous and create a cohesive record of full-bodied tenacity.

It may be a small step back in the evolution of his sound but 'EVENIFUDONTBELIEVE' still packs the same punch Rustie always has. Less vocals and more beats is certainly the new mantra for a producer that just can't stop blowing us away.
