The Sherlocks - 'Live For The Moment'

5/10

Ever since The Sherlocks first reared their heads onto the scene last year, comparisons of their mid 00s indie sound came flying out of the woodwork. Talked about as a modern day Maximo Park, Bloc Party or Kaiser Chiefs, the band clearly has a fondness for those heady days in which British indie ruled the waves. But now in 2017, is there style a simple nostalgia or a dated homage to a bygone era?

While there is certainly the energy behind them in almost every track, the record does have a difficulty defining itself. There isn't much in the way of a standout single on here, instead each song seems to follow the same formula of singalong vocals, cut up by the occasional high-toned guitar riff. And while there are plenty of songs to enjoy on here, it never really feels like something you would come back to time and time again.

It is obvious that while their efforts to rekindle the spirit of the 2000s is honest and sincere, there just isn't enough of the passion to create an engaging release on here. Much of the album just moves by without making much of a fuss, and leaves you feeling nostalgic for something better.
