While Sia's career has certainly seen her take on some unconventional avenues in previous years, we didn't think there would ever be a day she would make a Christmas album. But here we are in the final days of 2017 and that is exactly what we have. But while the yule-tide musical releases usually come with a tongue-in-cheek sense of cheese, Sia's contribution is looking to add some more credibility to the festive release and this new album is proof of that.
Adopting her regular writing collaborator Greg Kurstin for the project, together they have created ten original Christmas tunes and while there is the occasional rush of super sweet sleigh bell pop on here, the bulk of it is extremely enjoyable. 'Candy Cane Lane' and 'Ho Ho Ho' are really the only moments of overly-sugary gloss on here, as most of the full-length tends to lean towards romantic ballads about the winter season.
It obviously isn't for everyone, but if you can find the carefree disposition needed to get through it all, you'll find yourself having more fun than you thought. Sia is always one to take on a challenge and this may well be one of her best concept releases to date.
