Soccer Mommy - 'Evergreen'

8/10

Throughout her compelling tenure to date, Sophia Allison's Soccer Mommy project has been one of the more innovative on the US indie-folk scene this past decade. Her ability to blend heartfelt storytelling with some beautifully riveting compositions has consistently earned her countless praise and acclaim over the years. And even with her 2022 LP 'Sometimes, Forever' continuing that reputation, she returns once again with her fourth studio album 'Evergreen', a record that sees her continue to grow and evolve.

Much like her previous work, 'Evergreen' likes to adopt a mixture of euphoric atmospheres and more sombre textures as it plays. This wonderful juxtaposition of sound is not just a staple of Soccer Mommy's captivating flow, but also allows her to burst free with plenty of surprising moments throughout. Offering up more of that warm and rustic appeal she has always garnered, her latest LP finds her in confident spirits once again as she looks to deliver yet another mesmerising body of work for us all to get swept away in.

It has certainly been a strong and emotive time for her lately, but 'Evergreen' shows there is still plenty of fresh and alluring innovation coursing through her right now. Brimming with this tender emotion across all eleven tracks, she remains one of the more enthralling names doing the rounds right now.
