Sofi Tukker - 'Treehouse'

7/10

Over the last few months, the New York-based duo Sofi Tukker have been slowly warming us to their eccentricities. With singles like 'Best Friend', 'Baby I'm A Queen' and 'Batshit' all aiming to show us a different side to their sound and intentions, this debut album can simply be boiled down to one idea, and that is to simply have a good time no matter what troubles may be surrounding you at the moment.

At 10-tracks and just 32 minutes in length, 'Treehouse' plays like a brief pick me up in the morning, effectively taking the musical form of your first coffee of the day. With a strong and spacious techno influence on a number of cuts throughout here, the band are sometimes confused as to where is best to listen to this new release. Sometimes you can imagine listening to them on the way to the gym, whereas others like 'Benadryl' and 'Johny' really throw a rod on the spokes of the pace and occasionally interrupts the flow of the release.

Yet despite its problems with pacing, 'Treehouse' is still a very fun record and would guarantee that at least one of these songs get stuck in your head after you finish listening to it. It never takes itself too seriously, which is all part of the carefree charm the band are looking to convey.
