Softly Spoken - 'Seasons In Love'

7/10

Over the last few years, the singer-songwriter mould has grown from a humbled origin to one of the more revered styles in contemporary music. Using a simple voice and acoustic guitar has allowed some of the more prominent artists doing the rounds to truly accentuate their lyrical prowess, and this is exactly what we get from newcomer Softly Spoken who has delivered her wondrous debut album ‘Seasons Of Love’, a record that looks to heighten her vibrant songwriting throughout.

While her stripped-back direction keeps very much to a traditional endeavour, ‘Seasons Of Love’ still looks to add in the odd surprise from time to time. Exploring both retrospective and forward-thinking aesthetics as it plays, this warm and emotive introduction to her sound makes for a beautifully serene listen, with tracks like ‘My Person’ reflecting some wonderfully alluring emotions from start to finish.

While it may be her only piece of material so far, ‘Seasons Of Love’ certainly sets a standard for what we can expect from her in the future. Brimming with these rich and tender textures as often as possible, Softly Spoken has arrived on the scene in stellar fashion throughout.
