Spector - 'Here Come The Early Nights'

7/10

While their initial offerings certainly saw them explode onto the scene with gusto and aplomb, indie-rock outfit Spector have been a more subdued name since returning to their prolific ways in recent years. After their 2022 LP 'Now Or Whenever' marked their first full-length in seven years, it also showed a new and more contemplative side to their sound, something that was still incredibly well-received. But not looking to slink away just yet, they return with their fourth studio album 'Here Come The Early Nights', a record brimming with warm and inviting textures.

The title of the release almost feels like a nod to their now aging presence on the scene, with self-awareness always a keen element within the Spector sound since they first emerged. But despite its toned down appeal this time around, 'Here Come The Early Nights' still manages to pack in plenty of bite. Blending a heady mix of driven guitar anthems and more heartfelt odes, their newest offering is another strong and confident addition to their growing catalogue today.

Spector have never been ones to fall into the self-absorbed indie crowd throughout their tenure, and 'Here Comes The Early Nights' feels like their most down-to-earth and inventive record so far. While there are the odd moments when the momentum falls off, this new collection is a largely enjoyable romp that maintains their vibrant reputation to date.
