Steven Tyler - 'We're All Somebody From Somewhere'

6/10

Having spent much of his life at the helm of Aerosmith, one of the biggest rock bands on the planet, Steven Tyler has taken some time away from the group to deliver his debut solo album, a record that may not be what you expect. Forget the hip-thrusting and wailing guitar solos as this new releases sees Tyler return to his country rock origins and gives us a whole new side to the rock legend.

While sceptics may see this as an end of career vanity project, from the off, it seems to matter a hell of a lot to the man at the front. Delivering a sensible and engaging collection of tracks, 'We're All Somebody From Somewhere' shows us the kind of musician Tyler seems to want to be. The extremely well-produced album gives Tyler a huge platform to perform from, and unlike most solo side-projects, his own place on this record is just one of the highlighted areas of this release. Making the music itself the most apparent element here.

It is certainly refreshing to see Steven Tyler take a side away from what we presume is his comfort zone. The man has been releasing solo singles since the 90s, so it was only a matter of time before he got round to releasing a full-length album. And it ain't half bad at that.
