Sweet Baboo - 'The Boombox Ballads'

7/10

Welsh singer-songwriter Stephen Black aka Sweet Baboo has always shown himself to be a progress mind in modern music. Never satisfied with sitting still, the musician is constantly looking for new directions in order to add more variety to his catalog of songs so far. And his latest effort 'The Boombox Ballads' seems to once again be following that pretence as Black looks to explore more of the singer side of his singer-songwriter guise.

Bringing cheer and uplifting pace throughout, 'The Boombox Ballads' is a fantastically well-written collection of tracks that all put Black's vocals at the centre of each production. Especially when it comes to 'I Just Want To Be Good', a song that sees the singer not only stretch his range to its limits but also give very little support to him musically. Keeping focus solely on Black's extremely well-controlled voice.

Fans of his previous work will no doubt enjoy everything on offer here. Its highly-spirited approach to songwriting makes it not only an enjoyable listen, but with that presence of a forward-thinking individual at the helm, one that you feel grows with you.
