Todd Hearon - 'Impossible Man'

7/10

Ever since breaking through with his much-loved debut LP 'Border Radio' in 2021, US singer-songwriter Todd Hearon has always looked to maintain a warm and riveting aesthetic in which to call his own. Regularly adopting this subtle blend of alt-folk and country-inspired rhythms throughout everything he does, his tenure to date has been this wildly explorative one that always finds something new and interesting in which to explore. And after rekindling that initial magic for last year's 'Yodelady', he is back once again with his third studio album 'Impossible Man', a record that builds upon that dynamic foundation he has created lately.

While these last few years have certainly been an extremely busy and prolific time for him, 'Impossible Man' shows he is still very much on top of his creative game right now. Continuing to pursue those rich and emotive textures he has become synonymous for, this new eleven-track collection finds him in a wonderfully progressive guise as he shines and shimmers throughout. Although much of this release already arrived as singles in recent months, hearing them all under one roof really highlights the wondrous aesthetic he has been conjuring, delivering something truly alluring from start to finish.

While plenty has already been said about his enigmatic presence of late, 'Impossible Man' still looks to push the boundaries of his sound as often as possible. Crooning with this subtle elegance throughout, Todd Hearon remains a firm addition to today's underground music scene with this one.
