Toothless - 'The Pace Of The Passing'

7/10

Having plenty of buzz and expectation throughout 2016, Bombay Bicycle Club's Ed Nash aka Toothless kicks off the new year with the unveiling of his highly-anticipated debut album 'The Pace Of The Passing'. And from what we had heard so far from Nash, we had been expecting an extremely varied and diverse release, and thankfully that is exactly what we have here.

With a strong juxtaposition of acoustically-led productions and tracks that mirror his own indie origins, this new full-length sees the solo artist on a true journey of discovery. From the start, we are treated to a true blend of ideas that both surprise and intrigue those that were just expecting a continuation of the Bombay sound. And with the addition of other highly-regarded artists like Marika Hackman and The Staves thrown into the mix, the album manages to break off its shackles as just another side-project and be considered as a new beginning for the songwriter at the helm.

In the end, it seems that Ed Nash has reimagined himself within his Toothless project. While some of its more experimental parts look to show us his more indulgent side, it is all written with the listener in mind, creating a very engaging and enjoyable release.
