Diverse is a word that gets far too much use in trying to describe the sound of a new album, but in the case of this latest release from Detroit-based threepiece Turn To Crime, it seems more than apt. In fact I’d even go as far as calling it an original slice of brilliance because I can barely think of a band that has even come close to being compared with this threesome.

With clear influences from The Stooges and Velvet Underground, Turn To Crime have managed to pull off one of the most interesting records of the year. Its use of reverbing electronics and off-tempo beats gives this album a haunted yet very human feel. Giving the impression that while they may use effects to exaggerate their music, they use them in a live and unfiltered environment. Creating a record with so much more character than any over-polished major label release and bringing an earthy sound back to the contemporary scene.

This album is clearly written as an invitation to their audience to join them on this crazy ride into the full musical spectrum. If you are put off by the full minute of sonic noise at the start of the record, then best not go any further as it gets very weird and wonderful very quickly.
