Two Door Cinema Club - 'Gameshow'

7/10

While their debut album 'Tourist History' was one of the most well-loved indie albums of the decade so far, their follow up 'Beacon' failed to make the same impact, despite being just as fun and likeable as their first. So now, after a four year gap, Two Door Cinema Club return with their third studio album 'Gameshow', a record that shows that they are now far from being the band they used to be.

And while much of the pace of their previous records still remains on this new release, what 'Gameshow' has is a more diverse direction when it comes to flow. With less frantic riffs and more funky rhythms, this new work seems like a completely different band and shows that Two Door Cinema Club are looking to pursue a more mature path. With its frequent nods to 80s synth pop, this new album seems to emerge itself in the familiar and focus its efforts into a more nostalgic sound.

It is hard to say whether fans of the band would still enjoy this release as it is so far removed from the band's original sound, but as a record on its own, it has some pretty great moments. Memorable hooks and sing-along choruses aplenty, 'Gameshow' has shown that their is still life left in these guys for now.
