Violet Whimsey - 'Love, Love'

7/10

Over these last few years, LA-based artist Violet Whimsey has been carving out a fresh and uplifting direction in which to call her own. Delivering these distinctly rich and shimmering textures to suit her lofty vocal style, she has been making waves as one of the more euphoric additions to the new music scene in recent years. And after a run of highly-praised releases these last few months, she now looks to cement her vibrant legacy to date with her eagerly-awaited debut album 'Love, Love', a record that continues that immersive aesthetic of hers.

Opening up with the soaring 'Loving You (Was Killing Me)', it quickly becomes clear that the title of 'Love, Love' isn't meant as a literal definition. Instead Whimsey looks to harness her provocative songwriting abilities to create this heady mix of offerings, all of which looking to explore the spectrum of both loving and then losing. Adopting this wonderfully varied approach to both genre and instrumentation as it plays, her initial full-length makes for a wildly eclectic listen, all looking to add something new and interesting to her ever-evolving direction of late.

It may have taken a while to get here, but 'Love, Love' has certainly been worth the wait for her adoring fans. Brimming with such raw power and emotion at every turn, Violet Whimsey returns to the fold with some of her more adventurous material to date here.
